SUMMARY:Research Mentor Training Workshop for Faculty; 1 workshop/3 morning sessions
DESCRIPTION:This evidence-based and well-received workshop is designed for faculty to develop skills and insight in mentoring postdocs and graduate students and to provide the opportunity for interactions and discussion between mentors at different institutions and in different disciplines. You will gain insight into developing effective mentoring relationships and practical tools and strategies that you can apply immediately. \n\n\n\nThe 5-hour workshop has been revamped into 3 sessions to be delivered online while maintaining the break-out discussions and interaction at the heart of the training: \n\n\n\nWednesday\, June 3\, 9:30 – 11:00: Introductions; Topic: Maintaining effective communication with menteesThursday\, June 4\, 9:30 – 11:30: Topics: Aligning expectations\, Fostering independenceFriday\, June 5\, 9:30 – 11:30: Topics: Cultivating self-efficacy\, Addressing equity & inclusion; Close\n\n\n\nWe ask that you commit to all three sessions. There will be about 15 minutes of pre-work/reading prior to each session. We will use your input and feedback to design future online mentor training workshops. \n\n\n\nParticipants will receive certificates after completion\, and the training counts for evidence-based mentoring training under NIH guidelines. \n\n\n\nLead Facilitator: Bob Tillman\, PhD\, Director of Education and Training at MD Anderson\, and a master trainer with the NIH’s National Research Mentoring Network.
