SUMMARY:35th Keck Annual Research Conference
DESCRIPTION:Advances in Epigenetics:From Mechanisms to Medicine \n\n\n\nEpigenetic regulation is emerging as a central theme in understanding complex biological processes and disease mechanisms. Epigenetics refers to the study of heritable changes in gene expression that do not involve alterations to the underlying DNA sequence. These changes are often governed by chemicalmodifications\, including DNA methylation and histone modification\, that influence how genes are turned on or off. Epigenetic mechanisms play a critical role in development\, cell differentiation\, and responses to environmental signals. They are increasingly recognized as key contributors to diseases such as cancer\,neurological disorders\, and developmental defects. In this conference\, leading experts will highlight how recent advances in novel sequencing technologies\, computational tool development\, and emerging conceptual frameworks for studying epigenetics are transforming our understanding of gene regulation\, tumor evaluation\, and precision medicine. The meeting will also feature a poster session showcasing outstanding research conducted by predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees from the sixinter-institutional training programs administered by the GCC/Keck Center in the greater Houston area.

SUMMARY:IMM Scholars: Introduction to Flow Cytometry Workshop\, Nov. 4\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Flow cytometry is an essential tool in immunology\, cancer biology\, and many other fields\, enabling researchers to analyze cell populations with high precision. However\, successful experiments depend heavily on careful planning and execution—from thoughtful panel design to rigorous use of controls and proper instrument setup. This workshop is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of these critical steps. Attendees will learn how to approach panel design by selecting appropriate markers and fluorophores\, as well as strategies for minimizing spillover and spectral overlap. The session will also highlight the role of proper controls\, including single stains\, FMOs\, and isotypes\, in ensuring reliable data interpretation. Finally\, participants will be guided through instrument setup and compensation\, including setting voltages\, using automated tools\, and performing manual adjustments. At the end of the workshop\, participants will be equipped with practical strategies to design robust flow cytometry experiments and generate high-quality\, reproducible data.
